Star Wars Saturday

Brandon started school this week, and when I drop him off each day I see lunch boxes for the kids.  Lunch boxes....hmm; interesting.  So today we're going to journey into the land of Star Wars lunch boxes.

These are a few of the lunch boxes I've seen on the shelves at stores.  One of the students in my class at APA had the R2-D2 lunch box, and I just laughed!

Classic "roll top" lunch boxes

Another look at the R2-D2 lunch box

If I was going to pick a lunch box, I wouldn't want one that they sell today.  In my opinion, the vintage lunch boxes are by far the best!

I love the last two.  If I had to pick my favorite, the last lunch box would be the one for me.  The colors are great, and I love the pictures on it.  Great shots of Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker!

Star Wars Saturday

While promoting his new movie Cowboys and Aliens, which I can't wait to see, Harrison Ford visited the Jimmy Kimmel show.  Apparently he and Chewbacca have some unresolved issues.  I thought this was funny, and a little disturbing at the same time!  Harrison Ford does a great job of making me actually believe he's mad at Chewbacca!

Oh, and for any other Star Wars geeks out there:  this confrontation couldn't actually happen because in the expanded universe novels, Chewbacca was killed off!  I still can't believe how many characters the authors have axed!  Anyway....

And since I'm so excited about Cowboys and Aliens, here's a movie trailer.  Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig in the same movie, come on, I am in heaven!  It looks like it will be a very different movie, which is why it looks like it will be AWESOME!

Star Wars Saturday

Looking through YouTube today I found a video that I thought was funny.  Remember, I'm a total dork, geek, and crazy person when it comes to Star Wars....maybe that's why I thought it was funny!

Star Wars Saturday

I think I've found a way to watch the prequels without wanting to poke my eyes out with a fork!

A few months ago I found a YouTube video by a boy who told the story of episodes 4-6 with legos.  About a month ago he made another one, about episodes 1-3.  The best part:  he tells the story in under 3 minutes!

Take notes George Lucas:  THIS is how you tell a story!!!

Star Wars Saturday

I hate how the prequels have screwed up certain elements of the original trilogy.  One MAJOR issue that arises due to the changes is Leia's memory of her mother......her REAL mother.  Once again, the writers from 78 Reasons To Hate Star Wars Episode 1 have said it better than I ever could.  (I apologize for the red "copyright" sign in the middle of the screen.  It's the copyright for the software.  I created this clip myself, and have no idea how to get rid of it!)

Leia's Award-Winning Memory

One of the most obvious questions that comes up regarding the prequels and how they relate to the original movies is Leia's memory of her mother.  In Return of the Jedi, Leia tells Luke that she only remembers images of her mother, that she was "very beautiful, but sad."  The major question is this: how does Leia remember her mother if she was only alive together with her mother for a total of one minute?  The answer to this may be: "Well, Leia is talking about her adoptive mother, so there!"  The answer to that is, of course, that Luke says, "Tell me about your mother, your real mother."

Another shoddy apologist answer would be: "Well, Leia was an exceptional baby and because of the Force she remembered her mother."  This is an even worse explanation, seeing that Luke was there at the time and was actually born first.  Being born even a mere twenty seconds earlier than Leia means that he spent a considerable percentage more of his life with his mother than Leia did.

At this point, we can only assume that Princess Leia is just really, really stupid and is actually referring to photographs of her mother that Bail Organa showed her while they cruised around in his Ford convertible.

Once again, thanks George Lucas for screwing up perfection when you made the "special editions" of episodes 4 - 6, and for just about killing the franchise when you made episodes 1 - 3.

Star Wars Saturday

I've always been a fan of vanity plates, even though I've never had one.  There should be no question in anybody's mind that when the day comes that I do get a vanity plate, it will have something to do with Star Wars.  I currently have a license plate frame that says,

Star Wars
May The Force Be With You

Yesterday while I was driving home from work, I saw the most brilliant vanity plate:  OB1KNOB

That says, "Obi-Wan Kenobi" for anyone who doesn't speak Star Wars!  I saw this and was so bummed that I didn't think of it first!  It also got me to thinking:  what would my vanity plate say?  I have to register my car in July, and finally get Utah plates, what better time to get one than then?

So, off I went to the internet to look for examples.  And oh boy, did I find them!  Here are some of the Star Wars vanity plates I found from the website Coolpl8z.com

"May Da Force Be With You"

"Jedi Knight"

"Master Yoda"

"Nerf Herder"

Princess Leia calls Han Solo a "stuck up, half wit, scruffy looking nerfherder"

Of those choices, I really like "Jedi Mom".  My love of Star Wars isn't going to change, I'm a mom, and Brandon loves Star Wars too!

Which of these do you like?  Have any other suggestions for me?

Star Wars Saturday

Fan videos on YouTube are usually either really good, or really, really bad.  I've found another tribute to Star Wars video that I think is great.  Often I could care less about the videos that feature the prequels.  However, this video did a great job of combining the movies together.  And instead of just using one piece of John Williams masterpiece score, they use multiple pieces, which is always wonderful.

Enjoy!

Star Wars Saturday

Another installment from 78 Reasons to Hate Episode 1 brings us to the Nitpickers guide to Episode 4:  The Empire Strikes Back.

Once again, remember that I didn't write this, the clever guys from the 78 Reasons website did.  But I COMPLETELY agree with them!

Nitpick #4
Emperor and Vader Dialogue
The dialogue has changed. For the better? C'mon, you know better than that. Here is the new dialogue:

DARTH VADER:   What is thy bidding my master?
EMPEROR PALPATINE:  There is a great disturbance in the force
DARTH VADER:  I have felt it.
EMPEROR PALPATINE:  We have a new enemy, the young rebel who destroyed the death star. I have no doubt this boy is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker.
DARTH VADER:  How is that possible?
EMPEROR PALPATINE:  Search your feelings, Lord Vader, you will know it to be true. He could destroy us.
DARTH VADER:  He's just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.
EMPEROR PALPATINE:  The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.
DARTH VADER:  If he could be turned, he could become a powerful ally.
EMPEROR PALPATINE:  Yes, he would be a great asset. Can it be done?
DARTH VADER:  He will join us or die master.

"How is that possible?" How is that possible? We are told in the opening scroll and throughout the entire movie that it is a relentless pursuit of Luke Skywalker that is driving Vader. Vader even says: "That is the system. And I'm sure Skywalker is with them." If he doesn't think that Luke is his son then who does he think Luke is? Does Vader remember his original name? Is he just really dumb? Why would he be in pursuit of Luke Skywalker if he thought that the surname they share was just a funny coincidence?

I know if I found out about someone named Chefelf, Jr. who was approximately 20-25 years younger than me it may occur to me that he is my son, even if I didn't have any children that I knew about.

Star Wars Saturday

With Brandon's birthday last Sunday, I've been thinking recently about cakes.  Then it dawned on me:  why not see if there are Star Wars cakes?  I am in no way, shape, or form, a cook; but I was thinking that there might be some cool pictures to share with you for Star Wars Saturday!

So, today I give you Star Wars cakes:  the good, the bad, and the what in the world were they thinking?!?

The "good"

I can't even tell this is a cake....kudos to the baker!

One of the better Yoda cakes I've seen

This Millenium Falcon cake also looks like a model, not a cake...way to go baker!

The face of General Grievous is wonderful...it goes downhill from there

Faking it with action figures and edible "iron on" pieces will be Brandon's cake next year!

The "bad"

These were great until the baker cut their heads off!!!

and the "what were they thinking?!?"

This is suppose to be Emperor Palpatine.  I only know this because I'm a Star Wars freak!!

Excuse me, is this Yoda, or an overweight relative of his?!?
